Quotes and process
Is the quote free?
Yes, reviewing your enquiry and preparing the quote are free and without obligation. If a visit is needed for a distant site, any costs are announced in advance.
Can you give a price without visiting?
We can give you a ballpark figure based on photos and approximate measurements. The final quote follows an on-site survey, to avoid unpleasant surprises.
What are the lead times?
They depend on the piece and the chosen finish, particularly for galvanising and powder coating. Every quote states a precise lead time.
Do you work everywhere in Belgium?
Yes. We work mainly in Flanders and take on projects throughout Belgium. For distant sites, travel costs are clearly shown in the quote.
Standards and permits
How high should a balustrade be?
In Belgium, standard NBN B 03-004 specifies 1.10 m above the finished floor, and 1.20 m where the fall height exceeds 12 m. Gaps between vertical bars do not exceed 11 cm.
Do I need a permit?
It depends on the Region, visibility from the street and the impact on the structure. A new balcony or an altered facade balustrade often requires a permit. We help you find out before the project starts.
Do I need an architect or an engineer?
For load-bearing work (a new balcony, a mezzanine, a new stairwell opening), an engineer's structural calculations are required, and, as a rule, an architect when the work requires a permit (some work is exempt, depending on the Region). For a balustrade or a glazed screen, this is generally not the case.
VAT, grants and maintenance
Can I benefit from 6% VAT?
For renovation work on a private home more than 10 years old, invoiced directly to its occupant, the reduced rate may apply under certain conditions. Garden fencing and gates remain, as a rule, at 21%. The applicable rate is checked in every quote according to the rules of the FPS Finance.
Are there any grants?
In Flanders, a heritage grant from the Onroerend Erfgoed agency may apply to protected heritage. In Brussels, the “small heritage” grant can help restore ironwork visible from the street. Some municipalities also support burglary-prevention measures. Conditions should be checked with the Region or the municipality.
How do I maintain steelwork?
Washing with soapy water once or twice a year is enough for a powder-coated finish. Chips should be touched up to prevent corrosion. We can take care of this maintenance for you.
Have a project in mind?
Describe it in a few minutes, with photos. We'll get back to you with the right questions and a suggested site visit.
A few sentences are enough to get started: measurements and photos are optional.
