Craftsmanship

What makes good steelwork isn't always visible: a ground-down weld, the right protection, an accurate dimension. Here is what we pay attention to.

Materials

Steel
The core material: sections, tubes and plate, joined by welding or bolting. Strong, repairable and recyclable.
Stainless steel
For handrails and exposed work: it resists corrosion without paint.
Glass
Laminated safety glass for balustrades and treads; clear or frosted glass for glazed screens.
Wood
Solid oak for treads, handrails and shelves, combined with steel for a warmer touch.

Finishes

The choice of finish depends on the location and the look you want. Outdoors, we recommend the duplex system: galvanising followed by powder coating.

Hot-dip galvanised

The steel is dipped in a bath of molten zinc. This zinc layer gives lasting protection against rust.

    Cutting and folding

Cutting sections to length, cutting plate and folding treads according to the shop drawings.

  2. Shower of sparks while welding a rosette onto the scrolls of a garden gate, in the workshopOur team's work
    02

    Welding

MIG welding for structures, TIG for stainless steel and visible joints, grinding before finishing.

  3. Raw steel frame of a winding staircase in the workshop, with central stringer and welded tread supports, before finishingMade by us
    03

    Trial assembly

Complex pieces are assembled in the workshop before finishing to check dimensions and alignment.

  4. Central-stringer staircase in white lacquered steel with oak treads and a balustrade with vertical spindles, just installed and still under protective filmMade by us

    Installation

Chemical or mechanical fixings chosen to suit the substrate: brick, concrete, stone or wood.

Standards and rules

Several Belgian and European standards govern metalwork. We build them in from the design stage.

NBN B 03-004
Balustrades in buildings: heights, gaps between elements and strength.
NBN S 23-002
Glazing: choice of safety glass according to use and fall height.
Eurocodes 1 and 3
Imposed loads and design of steel structures.
EN 1090
Execution of steel structures (EN 1090-2) and CE marking of structural components (EN 1090-1).
NBN EN 13241 and EN 12453
Doors and gates: product requirements and CE marking (EN 13241); safety in use of power-operated gates (EN 12453).

Planning and housing rules differ between Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia. We check which apply at your address.
